The Community Services Unit utilizes police mountain bikes to engage the community in a variety of ways. The officers patrol the white pine, south kent and the east trail system; they ride in the parks, business districks and neighborhoods. While on a bicycle, the officers are more accessible to the citizens in the community then they would be from a patrol vehicle.
The officers also teach bike safety programs, helmet safety programs, facilatate bike rodeos for children, and use the bikes for traffic control in special events (5k runs, parades ect).
