About accessKent
We're Grand: A River Runs Through Us
Connections are at the heart of our community, the very essence of who we are. Our road system, the electrical grid and yes, even the Grand River-all of them are vital parts of the backbone that have enabled Kent County's growth in becoming the success it is today.
Our pioneers plied the Grand River for its access in building the economies of the early days. The many miles of the Grand and its tributaries were the focus of the first homes that grew into the 35 communities that now dot the County. Townships, cities, villages and Grand Rapids, itself, are rooted in the history of the Grand.
We are making new connections now-gaining a new electronic access that bodes as much for the development of our county, as the networking first provided by the Grand. Today, modern computer technology is creating a new digital network. It ties businesses, homes and government organizations together in a fashion that provides new instant capabilities, affording yet another redefinition of our lifestyles. E-everything has been borne, as the world well knows.
An electronic river is tying us together for yet a new era, on a national, state and local level. The web evolution of the computer began working its way through the world several years ago. It spawned new ways of business and new manners for customers and citizens alike. Everyone can now glide and click their way into a convenient electronic space that quickly lets them carry out what previously had been laborious.
Easy access through an electronic network - a far cry from the early days of the Grand, but just as precedent setting. And we've decided to join in with our initiation of accessKent.
This portal - is an investment by the Kent County Board of Commissioners. We offer easy access to a number of County government services--an alternative to phone calls, waiting in line and trips downtown to our offices. It will provide greater levels of access, convenience, and service. We are joining other local, state and National governments in making this online move.
What accessKent becomes depends to some extent on you, the user. In the months ahead we will be working to bring a number of County applications online. We invite your participation and feedback. We invite you to join with us to swell this new electronic river; with these connections we will be building a strong electronic community.
The Grand connected our early citizens. That, in turn, led to the area's strong sense of community and the partnering that built Western Michigan into what it is today. accessKent can well become another chapter in this successful saga, a contributing focus for our community as we step ahead into this new century.
And that brings us to an observation: We're Grand, a river flows through us. Kent County's accessKent is a bright promise for the electronic citizen. It is every bit as promising as the river that once got us going.
We look forward to serving you and invite your participation.
